Mobile Cross Country Safety

West Country Show Jumps have taken Advice from British Eventing on the Safety Aspect of Mobile Cross Country Jumps and have a Spiral Anchor System to offer customers who would like to improve Safety of their Mobile Courses. This system is approved by BE and the Pony Club.

Advice on Safety

  1. All Mobile Cross Country Jumps that are going to be used on an approved British Eventing Course need to have Anchor System otherwise the Technical Delegate for BE cannot approve the course. This has always been compulsory.
  2. The Pony Club recommends that Mobile Cross Country Jumps that are used for Pony Club competitions should have an Anchor System fixed to the front of the Mobile Jumps.
  3. Private Use or Riding Clubs. It is not compulsory to use an Anchor Fixing System, so its entirely up to the
individual club or owner to decide if they would like to use them or not.
Spirafix Anchor System

NewThe Spirafix Anchor System has a bracket which fixes to the jump and a Spiral Spike that will screw into the Ground.

Installation: Screw the bracket onto the mobile cross country fence. Using a hammer, drive the anchor into
the ground through the bracket hole. The brackets do not come pre fitted allowing you to fix them as required.
Use a spanner or large socket to unscrew anchor from the ground when they need to be uninstalled.

How many do I need?
Normally, single piece fences with a reasonable base width can be fitted with two anchors at the side towards the front only as they have a low centre of gravity i.e. Log cabin or Log roll. Lighter jumps or those with a higher centre of gravity may require two anchors at the side towards the front and another one or two towards the back. With fences that are going to be jumped from each side you require 2 anchors on each side, four in total.

If in any doubt as to how to anchor a fence, take advice from an experienced course builder or British
Eventing technical advisor.
